Star Wars fans finally got the worthy sequel they waited decades for when The Force Awakens hit theaters last month!
But it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer than planned for the next one, because Disney pushed back the release date of Episode VIII to the end of 2017!
The next installment of the franchise, which begins filming next month, was originally slated for a May 26, 2017 release — but now won’t be hitting theaters until December 15, 2017!
The House of Mouse will be replacing Episode VIII with another blockbuster franchise – the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has also been shifted to May 26, 2017 from July 7, 2017!
While having to wait longer for more Star Wars is certainly tragic, this news doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
With the colossal success of The Force Awakens, which obliterated the holiday box office, it makes sense that the studio doesn’t want to do ANYTHING different for the next film!
This shift will also give Rian Johnson, who is taking over director duties from J.J. Abrams, extra time in production — which can’t hurt either!
Good things come to those who wait, so we’re taking this as good news!
